Just Bought a Glock 21

I have been slowly watching the firearms squeeze play out for the last couple of weeks. I have shopped around extensively at the local places as well as taking note of many of the online prices. I have noticed the big chain stores around here are JACKING up prices at an alarming rate. The 7.62 x 39 ammo is now unbuyable IMO at the local Gander Mountain. A 20 round box of Wolf FMJ is now $7.99, many of the assault weapons are now gone or astronomical in prices, and I didn't like the $679 price tag on the Glock 21 I looked at yesterday.

I had the day off so I decided to head out of town to a very small bait store in my area. I bought my SKS there a few weeks ago and was very satisfied with the service. It's also nice to know that my money is being directly injected into the local economy. So I walked around the place today looking at the deals. The guy has NO more assault rifles in stock. The ammo prices he had weren't terrible but the brands were all pretty bad IMO. What caught my eye was the Glock 21 behind the glass with a price tag of $549.99. It was brand new with night sights and I eyeballed the thing for 20 minutes.

I initially went in dead set on picking up some 7.62 x 39 rounds and maybe an extra clip or two. When I saw that deal I had to take it. My question is what the hell is with these spreads lately? Why in the world such a god awful gap in the prices? That's two points for the local guy and 0 for the big chains in my area. I will be going back soon I am sure. Also should I be worried about popping up on radar soon? That's two firearms purchases in less than a month and first ones at that. I now own a rifle and a handgun and IMHO every self respecting head of the household should own both.

Side note my GF flipped her lid a couple of weeks ago when I bought the SKS. She didn't talk to me at all the rest of the day. After cleaning it and walking around the house with it a few times it doesn't bother her in the least. When I bought the Glock today she didn't even blink. She actually wanted to hold it and I gave her a complete demonstration of how it works. This is like what Alex Jones was talking about with trying to feed the masses that GUNS are BAD. Once they get used to the idea it really isn't that big of a deal to most people. If my gf changed her perceptions on guns anyone reading this can get there wife/gf to do the same thing.

It's deadly force that you can hold in your hand, nothing more, nothing less. It requires that the owner / user not be stupid or irresponsible. People are taught that they're evil serpents that leap into your hand and make you do bad things in a fit of rage, and this is the basis for the fear by non-owners.

Tell her it's a ****ing badge of citizenship. Tell her it is a tiny piece of political power, which is exactly what it is; yours alone is no revolution, but yours and ten million others are, if need be, and as long as you have the right you won't have the need.

Guns are a perfect example of rights being like muscles and you have to exercise them or you lose them.

Re: Just Bought a Glock 21

Great price on the Glock 21....$550 is a great deal with night sights! I see non-night sights go for over that these days.

My dad and I just bought 6 Glocks this past week.....was 4 but bought 2 more today.....I know the store owner quite well......and we were paying $580 for Glocks with night sights.....and $450 for the non night sights....I think a Glock in this environment for $450 is a pretty good deal....the night sights are an expensive option...

If I had the funds....I'd also get a Glock 21.....full sized Glock in 45 ACP is tough to beat!

We have about 1 ton 9mm ammo/components hoarded away....so we prefer 9mm as our survival round....and like the capacity.

We ended up with 4 Glock 17 (full size) and 2 Glock 19 (compact). We found the Glock 21 to be just too short in the grip for our full on fighting pistols.....the 19 is still not too large to CCW....but we have other guns as our primary CCW pistols.

I also bought 2 Ruger 10/22 in stainless....paper-work on those never leaves the gun store......but I have to register the 3 Glocks....... I don't care about the RADAR....better get them while you can.

Nice purchases. I came home from the gun show with a DPMS lower and a Walther P22. Still need to grab a few items over the next few days. Plan on adding a S&W 638, CZ75, a ton of magazines and a little more ammo.

The gun show was fairly well attended, saw some pretty nice SKS for $285 and plenty of ARs in the $850-$900 range. Didn't see too many AKs and the ones I did see were all $1000.

angryhippy, what did you have to pay for that lower if you don't mind me asking?

I paid $175 no tax, or tax included.

My wife is very pro-gun, and has been a member of the NRA for many years. Even so, when I told her that I'd bought a semi-auto AK-47, she nearly flipped. She basically ordered me to never say the words "AK-47" within earshot of friends or family, as she considered it "over the top."

And then, a few weeks later, I encouraged her to try handling it. Amazing how fast her opinion changed, once she actually held the AK in her hands, moved it around, and drew it to her shoulder.

There's a reason these are the most popular military rifles in the history of the world.

Love my Glock 21...

My wife, and daughter are both pro gun thankfully...

After watching some cable tv movie the other day called Fear, where Donnie Wahlberg and gang break into some girls familys house terrorizing them and beating the crap out of everyone as they had no weapons in the house or no way to defend themselves; she said she wanted me to take her to the range again and show here how to handle the Mossberg 500 so she would be confident with it... Made me smile..

A good friend of mine is scared to death of guns despite knowing what's coming down the pipe. He is prepping in every area but firearms, and has even talked about boarding up his windows and such if TSHTF. For some reason he cant get past his loathing of firearms and its driving me nuts.

I know people like this as well, it is mind boggling IMO. Firearms are a crucial part of survival preps. However ammo is the often neglected part of the equation.

Congrats on the G21 purchase OP, you won't regret it.

Re: Just Bought a Glock 21

Congratulations on your new Glock.

I stopped by the gun store yesterday to pay for my new rifle. The place was packed, and I've never seen this gun store packed. They sent away a couple of guys that looked suspicious, and there was another guy trying to buy an AR15. It was pretty obvious the guy knew nothing about guns, and he couldn't believe he couldn't get one. He asked if it was because of the Democrats, and the clerk explained to him that it was because ARs are one of the rifles Obama specifically targetted as wanting to stop the sale of. The poor guy was a middle-aged black man, and I got the impression he didn't believe them when they told him they didn't have one and didn't take special orders on them. I think he was thinking they were turning him down out of racism. I was standing next to him, waiting my turn, and I finally chimed in and said I'd heard the delivery wait for ARs that had already been ordered was several months out out, and no one was taking orders anymore. I think he finally believed us. He said he was going to try the gun show later in the month, and he was again taken aback when the clerk told him ARs at gun shows are going for $1500 to $1600.

It was obvious that several of the other customers were first-time gun shoppers. I saw one guy shopping for shotguns who didn't know the price range of shot guns (and seemed a bit taken aback when he learned what they cost, then said he wanted to see the low-end ones), and another couple of guys just wanted a shotgun but seemed kind of confused when the clerk asked what kind, what did they intend to use it for? They didn't seem to know what the clerk meant. First, they answered in the affirmative when the clerk said a "sporting model" then later they said something about "turkey hunting."

Glock is over 130,000 -210,000 units behind depending on who you ask.

LEO's who need them as duty weapons (orders fast tracked) are having to wait 4-5 months solid.

This is the real deal my friend ........be gald what you got when you got it.

I just had to drop major cash on a family of Glocks cause I wanted to pick them up all at one time........ paid about 550 a pop and I was happy to do it.

There was NO WAY on planet earth I was gonna sit on my hands for six months waiting on the party favors with this fool at the helm and a false flag all but certain.

Fear is a POWERFUL motivator.

$550 aint bad considering. Asault riffles are becoming non-existant, and the defense shotguns aren't far behind. I don't think you'll find anymore Remington HD's and 9mm Glocks at Acadamy sports, or most of the big retailers.

Gun sales are skyrocketing
By MariAn Gail Brown

Some gun owners may soon find they'll have to wait in line at their favorite target-shooting range.
It didn't used to be this way.

At Forest & Field Outdoor Specialties, a Norwalk-based gun store and shooting range, demand among novices and experienced gun owners for more training is so great that "classes are now completely booked for the rest of December, way into January and beyond," says Scott Moss, a lifelong outdoors man and competitive shooter, "so I've added classes and am booking [far ahead]. I've never seen anything like this before."

What Moss is referring to is a huge uptick in gun sales and interest in gun ownership. Call it the Obama effect.

Stoked by the president-elect's legislative history, public remarks and commercials paid for by the Republican National Committee and the National Rifle Association that are enjoying a second life on YouTube, hundreds of thousands of Americans are rushing to obtain pistol permits and buy handguns now because they fear the Obama administration will tighten gun laws, hike federal excise taxes restricting who is eligible to own a handgun or make the cost of ownership so steep that few can afford it.

The FBI's National Criminal Justice Information Service Division,
which conducts background checks in connection with handgun sales, tracked more than 374,000 requests for such probes on gun purchasers between Nov. 3 to 9, the week of Election Day, a 49-percent boost over the volume it saw over the same one-week period in 2007.
"Even before the election and especially after the election, sales were up," Moss said. "They remain that way. Clearly, it's because of people's fears about Obama imposing a 500 percent increase on federal excise taxes on guns, raising taxes on them the same way lawmakers raised taxes on cigarettes."

The NRA, on its Web site, refers to a 1999 Chicago Defender article in which it claims Obama called for a 500 percent excise tax to discourage handgun ownership.

"A huge tax hit like that will make it extremely expensive for the ordinary, honest, law-abiding person to afford to own a gun," Moss says. "Consequently, a lot of people coming through here and at other gun stores are rushing to get their pistol permits and purchase firearms before that happens."

State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance acknowledged the uptick in statewide gun sales, pointing out Connecticut purchases climbed 38 percent between November 2007 and November 2008, from 6,486 to 9,144 handguns sold.

"That is a major increase, and we're not sure exactly why that is," Vance says. "There's been some question if politics or concerns about new [gun] laws are behind it."

What is unclear from the statistics is whether they represent unique, first-time gun purchases or sales among Connecticut residents who have more than one firearm.

But concern about potential changes in federal law are not the only reason would-be gun owners are bombarding firearms dealers.

It's the economy.

"The financial meltdown in September and its cascading effect is making lots of affluent people worry that they'll wake up one day and the money and the credit they have won't be worth anything, and that there are those who are desperate for money," Moss says. "For them, it's a fear for their personal safety. And they don't just want to own a gun. They are interested in learning how to use one so that if they need to protect themselves, they will know" the right way to use a firearm.

Allan Warmflash, the owner of the Fairfield County Indoor Range in Monroe, agrees, saying that his store has seen a 60 percent increase in sales and the majority are first-time purchasers who come from a variety of careers. In addition, the Fairfield County Indoor Range has witnessed a corresponding increase in attendance for target practice.

"Naturally, there are law enforcement professionals who want to keep up their skills," Warmflash says. "These days, we're also seeing doctors, lawyers, bankers, laborers -- even some priests and a few rabbis" from upstate, he says. "We have everyone. They come from all religions and all political persuasions -- Democrats, Republicans and independents. All of them have an interest in protecting and defending themselves."

The upshot is that Warmflash's range has increased the number of pistol training classes it offers three-fold.

"We've done this because there's a need to ensure that every owner knows how to use his firearm properly. Buying a firearm is a lot like owning a chainsaw," Warmflash says. "We have an obligation to the purchaser and the public to make sure that the person whose hand we put this weapon in is comfortable with the specific firearm and understands how to use it responsibly."

Some gun retailers say shortages political
Guns and ammo are getting hard to find in eastern New Mexico.

And the folks who sell them say it is largely political.

Retailers say there is a definite shortage of some types of guns and ammunition.

They think some buyers are loading up for fear the election of Democrat Barack Oboma as president will make it tougher to get their hands on guns.

Oboma is seen as an advocate of gun control.

Patriot Outdoors in Clovis reports sales are up on assault rifles, defensive shotguns and handguns with high-capacity magazines

“Since the November election a lot of people have come in to buy assault rifles like the AR-15 because they are afraid they won’t be able to buy them next year,” said Andrew Rush, a Patriot Outdoors vice president.

Rush said buyers fear certain weapons may be banned. Others are buying the rifles as a future investment. They may be hard to get.

Rush said increased ammunition sales means a shortage for certain calibers.

“For the rifles we have had a shortage of .308 and .223,” Rush said. “For handguns the shortage of brand name 9 mm, .40, and the .45 caliber has been seen.”

The run on guns and ammo hasn’t gone unnoticed by law enforcement.

Quay County Sheriff Joe Schallert said he had recently been at Wal-Mart in Clovis and the store was out of .22 shells.

Schallert said ammo orders for his officers are taking longer for delivery because many manufacturers give priority to filling orders for the military in Iraq.

Rush and other local sellers say unfounded rumors of a .05-cent per round tax increase may be part of the reason for increased sales of ammunition.

Colo. gun sales shoot through roof in '08

More Local NewsBlog: Live updates from anti-Israel/Palestine protests at the state Capitol Stock show at critical juncture, CEO says on opening day Attorney General reaches settlement with mortgage companies More stories Gun sales reached record levels in Colorado in 2008, a spike many attributed to fears that Barack Obama's election will mean tougher firearms laws.

Background checks to clear buyers exceeded 200,000 for the first time in history. More than a quarter occurred after the Nov. 4 election.

At the Crossroads of the West-Gun Show of the Rockies on Sunday at an Aurora hotel, gun dealers and Second Amendment advocates alike said there is a direct relation between the election results and firearms sales.

Jimmy West of the Firearms Coalition of Colorado, a gun-rights group, said business has been noticeably more brisk in the wake of Obama's election.

"Quite a spike - I've never seen anything like it at a gun show before," said West. "It's unprecedented."

The National Rifle Association has attempted to portray Obama as a threat to gun rights, circulating fliers and mailers touting a "10-point plan to change the Second Amendment."

Among the NRA's claims: The president-elect will ban the use of firearms for home self-defense; ban rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting; and ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.

Obama has said he respects the constitutional right of Americans to bear arms and that he would protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport and use guns, according to a fact sheet put out by his campaign.

But West and Steve Schreiner said they don't trust Obama.

'Gun Ban Agenda'

Sunday, Schreiner, another representative of the Firearms Coalition, handed out a flier that detailed "Obama's Gun Ban Agenda." He said he has distributed 15,000 fliers in the past six weeks and that gun-rights supporters are intensely interested in Obama's plans.

"It's been that way since the elections," he said. "And it's not just here. It's happening all over the country."

West said the concern has grown out of comments Obama has made publicly and his past votes.

"It's mostly due to the fact that Obama has never made a pro- gun statement or a pro-gun vote in his entire career," West said. "Quite the opposite."

An analysis of the NRA claims in September by factcheck.org, which calls itself a nonpartisan group that monitors the accuracy of political statements, found that the NRA campaign "distorts Obama's position on gun control beyond recognition."

Whether people believe the claims or are simply in a gun- buying mood, one thing is clear: Background checks are through the roof.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation conducted nearly 30,000 instant background checks for potential gun buyers in November and more than 26,300 in December.

That compares with 18,569 checks in October and 14,556 in September. In January 2008, the CBI conducted 13,161 background checks.

Overall, background checks were up 26 percent in 2008. Total background checks last year numbered 202,772, compared with 160,756 in 2007. Roughly 97 percent of all background checks are approved.

Lance Clem, spokesman for the CBI, called it a "staggering year" for the Insta-Check Unit, which conducts the background checks.

"November was the biggest month," Clem said. "We had records set on three separate days in November."

Uncertainty ahead

Eldon Leasure, a federally licensed gun dealer from Colorado Springs, attributes at least part of the increase in gun sales to confusion about what, exactly, Obama plans to pursue in terms of gun laws.

"I think it's the uncertainty of which way the government is going to go," he said. "Sales are always good. Right now they're just a little better."

Don Collins, who was working Leasure's booth Sunday, agreed.

"There's a definite fear there," he said.

For two men looking for guns at Sunday's show, the impending change in administrations in Washington meant different things.

One man, who said his first name was Nathan but would not give his last name - said he was in the military - bought a World War I-era Russian pistol to add to his collection.

Politics had nothing to do with it, he said. Any new restrictions imposed in an Obama administration would not hinder his ability to add to his gun collection, he said.

Another man, Philip, was looking for a handgun, and said he was likely to buy one Sunday.

"That's probable, given the political climate and the environment," said Philip, who also would not give his last name.

A short time later, he found a pistol he liked and began filling out the pale yellow form needed for a background check through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Dang! I coulda swore it was Steve Earl who wrote that song. I still ain't convinced otherwise 'neither. I see you said "sung" but if you're gonna suggest a song you might consider the author. Steve Earl and Johnny Cash are both great pieces of Americana, though.
